A weekend of first experiences with a positive reflection for the season ahead — a story by Hillary Noble
The Melges IC37 Class experience was showcased in full at the New York Yacht Club 165th Annual Regatta throughout all three days of nearly perfect conditions, great competition, and unrivaled camaraderie for the Melges IC37 fleet.
Only one race was completed on Day 2 of the New York Yacht Club 165th Annual Regatta but Melges IC37 Class sailors recount the afternoon as one of the most memorable days on the water thus far. The fleet was treated a sporty 20-knot breeze and flat water that sent teams speeding around Narragansett Bay and left ear-to-ear smiles all around.
Teams battled their way through the 20 nautical mile Around-the-Island Race in dynamic conditions amounting to the ultimate day on the water for the Melges IC37 fleet at their second ever regatta since the Class’s inception.
Another great milestone in the story of the IC37! The final New York Yacht Club owned IC37 Hull #37020 has left the Fibre Mechanics Ltd UK factory. Now onto the private orders!
You’re Invited! Spend time onboard a completed boat and take a tour of the FIBRE Mechanics factory to learn about IC37 construction and assembly. See the IC37 by Melges in four different stages of production December 7-8.
The first three IC37s lined up for two days of one-design racing on Narragansett Bay on the first weekend of autumn. While the fleet was small—especially compared to the pack of 20 or more boats that will charge the starting line at each IC37 regatta next summer—it was nonetheless a revelation to see this slick 37-footer in its natural environment, namely racing boat-for-boat with full amateur crews.
“I really like the concept of this project. It really helps to limit the arms race, not just in terms of money and assets, but also in terms of how much time you have to put into your sailing.” Hear from owner Cory Sertl after her first day on the water.
